Joseph Harrison Loggins and Amelia Addie Lamb married in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee, in the Autumn of 1928. He was 53, she was 27. Joe was a widowed farmer and father of five, Addie was a divorced mother of four children. Previously, Joe had been married to Louella Morton, who died of tuberculosis in 1924. He was friends with Addie's parents, who lived just over the hill from him. Addie was married in 1919 to Leslie Ladd, and their divorce was final in June 1928. Together Joe and Addie raised six more children, enduring through the Great Depression, World War II, and more. Though they did separate in the early 1940's, they were not divorced. Somehow they managed to create a remarkable family legacy that endures to the present day. "Step" was not a word used in their home except for when referring to stairs, for example, and deep and lasting bonds of affection resulted. Many of their grandchildren remember family reunions characterized by fabulous food, fun and friendship. This blog is an attempt to recreate some of those things for the sake of those still living, and as a memorial to those who have passed on, to share with later generations. There are core values instilled in us that came from Joe and Addie, and they are worth remembering.
Please feel free to add your own memories you have heard passed down, your personal recollections, any of their recipes passed down to you, and other remembrances.
